The story of our church is really the story of many lives
transformed by the love and power of God.
Each member has a real-life story of how they have discovered forgiveness, healing and hope through believing in Jesus and experiencing his love. These stories all look different, but one thing binds us all together – that through faith in Jesus’ death and resurrection our broken, sinful and hopeless lives have been made new. We have been freed from guilt and shame and we have the hope of eternity with God – not because of anything that we have done, but because of what Jesus has done for us.
Because this message is such great news, a team from River of Life (Eastlea) lead by Sean and Debbie Mullens sensed God leading them to plant a church in Avondale, Harare that would share this great news. This was confirmed by their local church and the apostolic leadership of our family of churches – Newfrontiers.
30 adults and 15 kids started an evening service of River of Life Eastlea in 7Arts Theatre (Avondale) where 250 people gathered for the launch on Sunday 16th October 2011. Our goal was to become a selfgoverning, self-sustainable, multiplying church plant.
In His final prayer before going to the cross, Jesus prayed that we would be ONE. This seems like a high priority revealed in Jesus prayer for His church because he asks our Father 3 times that we would be united as ONE for 5 reasons:
“I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they
may all be ONE, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the
world may believe that you have sent me. The glory that you have given me I have given to them,
that they may be ONE even as we are ONE, I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly
ONE, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.”
1. That the church would testify and preach about Jesus calling others to believe in him.
2. That the world would understand the relationship between Jesus and his Father.
3. That the world would know and believe that the Father sent Jesus.
4. That the world would know that God loves them just as he loves Jesus.
5. That Jesus would be glorified in our ONEness (unity).
